Buddy Duncan, a co-founder and engineer for Marblehead-based company SeaTrac, runs tests on one of the company's solar-powered self-driving boats from a dock at Eastern Yacht Club in Marblehead. The boat is designed to stay out on the ocean for six months at a time and it collects data on the surface of the water. Its most recent venture was in Maine where it was used to study the cause of red tide by looking at the micro-organisms and how they form.
